Travelling is often not as simple as packing up and leaving home. Here's a small checklist for yourself: Don't ignore your living space: Make sure your pets are taken care of, and find someone to water your plants. Switch off the water, especially if you are from a cold region; your water pipes could burst otherwise. If you have a gas fireplace, turn off the pilot light. Don't ignore security: It's a good idea to leave contact information with a friend, relative, or neighbor. Your answering machine should have a message telling people that you'll be away and for how long. Also, trustworthy neighbors can be asked to look after your house and keep an eye out for unscrupulous individuals while you are gone. You might want to consider letting friends or relatives stay at your place; this would give you an extra layer of security. Pay those bills: Pay your bills, both outstanding and in advance if need be. Cancel or redirect subscriptions to magazines, newspapers, or any other service or good you won't be able to use while away. Don't forget your health: Before a long trip, visiting your dentist and doctor might be a good idea. Try and find information about diseases and parastites in the regions you are going to; a vaccination or two may be advisable. ...and, of course don't forget your tickets! Confirm in advance by calling the airline, and get ready to have fun! |
